Ads As a frequent TikTok user, I’m no stranger to scrolling past ads that pop up on my feed. The second I see that small grey button on my screen that says “ad”, I simply swipe my thumb across my screen and move on. However, many content creators have been, I suspect, paid to advertise certain TikTok shop products. These products range from clothes, workout gear, hygiene products, and more. These types of ads are given away by the orange icon of a shopping cart with the product listen next to it above the caption. Now, advertising isn’t something new.…

Beach Walks Every year, I take a trip with my family to Eastern Florida, where I can relax on my grandparents’ beachfront property. I usually try to take nightly beach walks during my stay. I take my red flashlight as to not disrupt my night vision, and scan the shore for wildlife. Typically, I see crabs, seaweed, and birds. However, during the hot summer months of turtle nesting season, I sometimes find tiny hatchlings or nesting mothers. The tiny hatchlings race to the ocean after crawling out from beneath the sand. They focus on light reflecting off the ocean waves…

The “Right” Article For my English summer course work, I have to read articles from different news outlets each week and analyze the political, social, and economic issues they tackle and how. I have tried every time to view every article with a neutral perspective, to see the world through new eyes. However, there are some very major differences between the articles written by left organizations as opposed to right. The specific article that inspired this post is called, “Are You An Immigrant With A Deportation Sob Story? Thanks Democrats” from The Federalist. The article talks about the current immigrant…

No Profit, No Effort I currently attend a small music school to take drum lessons and play in a band. Through this school, I am able to preform at venues like bars. I was recently given the opportunity to design a poster for my upcoming show, which will be sold during the concert. When my dad asked if I was interested, I said, “Will I get paid?” When he replied no, I refused the offer. I am a creative person. I love designing pretty slideshows and posters, but it’s usually for school assignments. When given the opportunity to do something…

Wealth of Americans Trying to be financially relaxed is difficult in America. According to Duke University, about 71% of Americans are significantly stressed about money. They fear for their ability to provide for their families, keep jobs, get an education, and support their lifestyles due to the weight of managing finances. Especially now, with inflation up by 4.2%, and gas prices up almost 19% on average across the country, it’s no wonder people might be trying to be more conscious about their spending. Not only that, but many people aren’t getting paid enough to comfortably live with the increasing prices,…

Peer Pressure Going into high school, I heard from countless adults all about the harms of peer pressure. They preached the importance of restraint and maturity, especially regarding substances. I figured that I would be offered alcohol and drugs at every corner of my school because of how much I heard about it. Peer pressure is really just FOMO in disguise. People want to experience what their friends do, and therefore make stupid decisions. My generation is actually incredibly respectful in terms of peoples’ boundaries. I don’t feel pressured to try vapes or alcohol, as I feel like saying “no”…

Women or Birds? A new word has recently been adopted from British and Australian diction by TikTok and has gained a large amount of popularity. This word, once used to refer to women or girls, has been demoralized. It is now used to describe women who are perceived as dumb and ditzy, and who center their lives around men; women who constantly talk about their crushes, make large sacrifices for men, and generally focus all their attention on attracting or impressing men. Women like this gain the fancy new label of “bird.” At first, I thought this was a good…
